Artifact 1: Process Champion CKH
ELEMENT A: Teachers demonstrate leadership in their schools.
ELEMENT B: Teachers contribute knowledge and skills to educational practices and the teaching profession.
The first piece of evidence that supports Teacher Quality Standard V is being a “Process Champion” for theCapturing Kids Hearts program at Cedaredge Elementary. Capturing Kids Hearts is a program implemented in our school that supports students and staff in leading them to their personal best. I was chosen as a Process Champion by the administration at Cedaredge Elementary School and the Capturing Kids Hearts representative. A Process Champion shares expertise with colleagues, while supporting them through the learning process. They also motivate and encourage other staff members on a daily basis, while developing strategies to advocate for CKH throughout the school and community and is also available for support. Educating staff about the EXCEL Model-Engage, Xplore, Communicate, Empower, Launch- during a staff meeting has given me the platform to lead by example.
This evidence supports Standard V, Elements A and B. Element A depicts how teachers demonstrates leadership in their schools. A Process Champion shows collaboration between staff members to support the school’s initiatives and goals of CKH. Presenting at a staff meeting and educating others on the developing information regarding CKH while conferring with administrators to consistently improve learning conditions, supports Element B. When the process champions meet, we share lessons and educational strategies with colleagues. Brainstorming and sharing ideas with colleagues, improve teaching and learning. Offering educational support for staff members is one ofthe biggest duties of being a Process Champion. Carving out time to review difficult scenarios and offering advice
to solve student-teacher difficulties ensures overall success of CKH.
Capturing Kids Hearts has been a wonderful implementation for our school. The staff at CES has learned several strategies to build relationships with students and help students achieve academic success. CKH provides problem solving tools and positive encouragement to support struggling students in a reflective way. We have seen an increase in student attendance, and behavior referrals are on the decline. I was honored to be chosen as a Process Champion. Even though CKH is a new program, I feel that the process champions naturally exhibit motivational skills while being passionate about creating a peaceful environment for everyone. I continue to grow and learn new approaches of offering tips and affirmations to my colleagues and students. Affirmations are encouraging words or suggestions from one person to the next. These days, as educators, we have a lot on our plate, but if we motivate one another on a daily basis, the students ultimately see that, and diffusion of positivity is inevitable.
